PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

      The Indian government is launching various schemes from time to time. The government is quite attentive to the needs of its citizens and continuously introduces different types of schemes for their welfare. The latest scheme launched by the government is the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme), announced by the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This scheme aims to provide relief to middle-class and poor families from expensive electricity bills by installing PM Surya Ghar solar panels in 1 crore homes across the country. The PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme will promote the green energy mission, help maintain environmental balance, and create new employment opportunities.

On February 1st, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the introduction of rooftop solar and free electricity under the PM Surya Ghar scheme while presenting the budget.

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana will provide 300 units of free electricity every month to 1 crore households. This scheme will save these 1 crore families ₹15,000 crore annually, and they will be able to earn income by selling surplus power to their local electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs). The scheme will also boost electric vehicle charging infrastructure and create significant entrepreneurial opportunities for vendors through the supply and installation of solar panels. Furthermore, it will generate ample employment opportunities for technically skilled youth in solar panel manufacturing, installation, and maintenance.

To increase the popularity of this scheme at the grassroots level, panchayats and urban local bodies will be encouraged to promote the installation of rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions.

3-       National online portal integration

Customers and all stakeholders, including urban local bodies and financial institutions, will be integrated with a national online portal that will streamline the application and execution process.

4-       Economic and environmental benefits

In addition to reducing electricity bills, this scheme is expected to create jobs, boost income opportunities, and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
